Northern Chartered Accountant Students' Society

Supporting northern ACA students

Support for Students

NCASS provides support to students through its links to organisations such as CABA (the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association) http://www.caba.org.uk/ and other training providers. Through these links, we are able to organise free workshops on areas as varied as dealing with exam stress and exam revision through to increasing confidence in public speaking.

We also represent students’ views to the ICAEW Student Council (ISC).

ICAEW Student Council (ISC) meets four times a year, with representatives attending from all of the Student Societies around the country.

The main aim of the ISC is to represent students’ views to the Institute by forming a network of communication from the Institute through Student Council and Student Societies down to Individual students and liaising with student societies to obtain feedback from students on issues relating to education, training and other aspects of professional development.  The Chair of the ISC sits on the ICAEW Council (the governing body of the ICAEW) ensuring a voice for students at the highest level. As a body the ISC has made major contributions to ICAEW including defining the branding currently used by ICAEW and many of the changes made in the recent updates of the ACA syllabus.

The ISC is currently working nationally to enhance links between district societies, such as NorSCA, and student societies, with the example set in the Northern Society area informing much of the national discussion.

The ISC is also a forum for Student Societies to share ideas for events and how best to run a society.

Finally the ISC wants to increase the profile of the Chartered Accountancy profession by increasing press coverage of events, organising charity events and getting involved in recruitment into the profession.

Your ISC representative for 2019/20 is Gregory Barnett.  You can contact Gregory via our contacts page.
