This event is for everyone in an accountancy practice responsible for the firm’s compliance with professional standards.

You will gain confidence that you are keeping on top of your compliance obligations and will have the opportunity of asking questions of our expert and well informed speaker.

The course content is necessarily a response to changes in practice regulations and recent changes. However, it will typically include:

• Practice administration issues – this session will draw on feedback from the professional bodies. It will typically include:
o Practice communications – developments affecting websites, letter headings, terms of business, marketing documents;
o Regulatory compliance – The General Data Protection Regulations, and, the revised anti money laundering regulations
o Professional Indemnity Insurance
o Changes to dealing with client money

• Risk management and client service – this session will look at practical aspects of servicing clients while ensuring the firm is not exposed to unexpected risks and will typically include:
o Topical engagement/ disengagement issues
o Topical reporting issues, including certificates and other confirmations
o Recent professional guidance on risk management

• Practical problems and issues – this session will review a selection of recent technical changes (last 2-3 years), providing a refresher on the key points and examining their impact in practice

Delegates are encouraged to ask questions and share experiences for the benefits of others.

Stephen McAlpine

Stephen McAlpine is a Chartered Accountant with considerable practical and training experience. He has been responsible for accountancy training to a variety of organisations, including open courses; ranging from small businesses to major quoted companies. Stephen had almost ten years’ experience as training manager in two medium size firms of Chartered Accountants before becoming a freelance trainer and independent reviewer of files for technical standards for about 60 firms of accountants. As a complement to his training and technical commitments, Stephen is a partner in an audit and accountancy practice which he founded in 1993. The firm’s clients are owner managed, and Stephen provides them all the routine professional services they require from an accountant.
