Business confidence monitor & Europe update with Simon Crosby, UKTI

Business confidence and economic growth are two key issues for business leaders in the current climate. This briefing will look at the latest findings from the ICAEW/Grant Thornton UK Business Confidence and UK Trade & Investment’s recent statistics on trading with Europe.

Business confidence – Keith Proudfoot, ICAEW Regional Director

The ICAEW/Grant Thornton UK Business Confidence Monitor (BCM) gives a quarterly snapshot of the state of the economy and provides a useful predictor of economic change.  Keith will look at the latest survey results from ICAEW members working in business across Northern region and the UK, review the findings and discuss the likely prospects for business in northern and the rest of the UK in the coming months.

Europe update- Simon Crosby, Senior International Trade Adviser

Figures released by HMRC for January to March 2014 show that £3.104bn worth of goods were exported from the North East region – an increase of £141m or 4.75% compared to the same period last year.  More than half of the region’s exports are to the EU with the Netherlands, France and Spain in the top 5 countries that the North East exports goods to.  However, we have seen strong growth in emerging markets, which will be increasingly important for the region’s economic well-being.  We will be providing you with an update on the region’s latest export performance and guidance on markets to watch.
