NCASS and CABA – Public Speaking with Confidence
Date: 18 September 2018 17:45 - 20:30
Organiser: NCASS
Work alongside a trained professional and other ICAEW members to build on your public speaking and presenting skills and gain the necessary confidence to stand out as a competent and effective public speaker.
Many of us try to avoid public speaking. This skill is often unlearned in our degrees or our training schemes but we are sometimes just expected to be good at it. According to the BBC, a 2014 survey by Chapman University found a fear of public speaking was the biggest phobia among respondents – 25.3% said they feared speaking in front of a crowd.
However, that fear may be majorly limiting our career opportunities!
A survey of more than 600 employers in 2014 found that among the top skills recruiters look for, “oral communication” was number one and “presentation skills” number four. Traditional management skills such as “managing administrative activities” came down at the bottom.

This workshop is designed to help us face that fear and attempt prevent the dry throat, shaky legs and sweaty palms a lot of us experience from the moment we stand up in front of that crowd. We will be working alongside a professional who will help us to manage the nerves and help us to become more competent and confident public speakers!
Additionally thanks to our friends at CABA, this event is completely free AND there is free food before the event!
