A quarterly discussion group for small & sole practitioners.

An opportunity for ICAEW members who work in a small practice or is a sole practitioner to meet to discuss topics that matter to them.

Event Information

Join our quarterly roundtable discussion group for small practice or sole practitioners working across the Northern region.

We will be joined by Sam Wood, Making Tax Digital Agent Lead at HMRC. Sam will be giving us an update on the project and you will also be able to ask questions that are affecting you as an agent but also your clients.  

At each meeting we will get a general update from your ICAEW Practice Committee (IPC) Representative Geoff Little.

Refreshments can be purchased by individuals at the bar.

The pandemic has meant many businesses have had to change rapidly to cope with its impact. What are the implications for strategy? In this Business Bitesize discussion, we will explore whether the principles of strategy still apply and what businesses should be doing in thinking about the future. Based on discussions with finance professionals and management research we will provide practical advice on:

  • different approaches to strategy;
  • the role of the finance professional in strategy; and,
  • the implications of the pandemic for strategy

There are no easy answers, so we will aim to make this session as interactive as possible because members insights are all important in helping your fellow members develop solutions.

Business confidence – Steve Plaskitt, on behalf of ICAEW

The latest findings from the quarterly ICAEW Business Confidence Monitor (BCM) give an indication of the overall direction of the economy, what’s driving change and highlights the key concerns across the Northern, Yorkshire and Humber region as well as the rest of the UK.

UK Economic Outlook – Paul Mount, Bank of England

Paul will focus on how the Bank sees the economy in the current climate and members will be asked to give their views on the effect of the current pandemic on their business, or clients’ business conditions.

It’s also an opportunity for the Bank to get some feedback from members on how they are finding things, as well as a broader discussion on challenges and learnings from recent events.

Roundtable discussion led by Steve Plaskitt (discussion topics may vary)

  • What’s happening in your sector?
  • Do the BCM findings resonate?
  • What challenges are you facing in your business / sector?
  • What are the external factors that are impacting?
