The first meeting of the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants (at first known as the Northern Institute of Chartered Accountants) was held at 3pm on Monday 31 July 1882 at St Nicholas Chambers, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Join Northern Society President Dr Yvonne Gale for afternoon tea to celebrate the society’s 140th Anniversary, at St Nicholas Cathedral close to the building of the first meeting in 1882.

Local playwright, Ed Waugh, will discuss his new book, Geordie Plays: Volume 1: Hadaway Harry – The Great Joe Wilson – Carrying David.
Harry Clasper, Joe Wilson and Glenn McCrory; three Tyneside heroes, each with a magnificent tale to tell.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to find out more about these beloved plays and hear about the importance of regional heritage to us.
Ed’s latest work, Wor Bella, tells the story of Blyth Spartan’s Ladies’ striker, Bella Reay. Bella was the Alan Shearer of her day!
Ed also has a successful writing partnership with Trevor Wood, and their plays include Dirty Dusting and Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather.
You will get a chance to ask Ed any questions you may have.

The Northern Chartered Accountant Students’ Society (NCASS) is delighted to be hosting its Annual Teesside Dinner for ICAEW students and newly qualified members at the Judges Country House Hotel on 20 May 2022.
On arrival attendees will be greeted with a drinks reception where you will have the opportunity to mingle with friends and colleagues before being invited to take a seat for a three-course dinner. Guests will be seated at tables of 10.
After dinner entertainment includes a DJ, disco and a photo booth.
During the evening we will also be raising money for our chosen charity which this year is the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation. There will be raffle tickets available for purchase with great prizes up for grab.
Tickets can be purchased individually or can be made in groups with a maximum of 10 guests per table.
Dress code: Black tie and evening dresses.

Our Business and Awards Dinner will be held on Friday 14 October 2022 at the Grand Hotel, High Gosforth Park, Newcastle upon Tyne from 18:30 for 18:45 with Dinner 19:30 until late to allow for informal networking after the meal.

We look forward to recognising the success of all Northern Society ACA students who became exam qualified during the last year in our annual Northern Society of Chartered Accountants Graduation and Prize-giving Event.
The graduation event this year will be at King’s Hall, Newcastle University and will be hosted by Chris Soan, President of Northern Society and we are delighted that we will be joined by Will Brooks, ICAEW President and Mark Edmondson, CEO of INFLO.
Our newly passed and prize-giving ceremony is one of the largest events for successful ICAEW students and has proved very popular in the past.
Students who have won exam prizes and those students who became exam-qualified during the last year will be invited to attend the event with up to 3 guests. The pass list for the November 2021 Advanced Stage exams has recently been published – congratulations to all successful students.

Which sectors will lead the recovery in the North?
As the UK starts to recover from the fall out of the pandemic and business confidence is starting to return to positive territory, this economic update will look at how the ‘Northern Powerhouse Region’ is recovering, and which sectors will lead in this recovery.
