Date: 24 October 2019 09:30 - 12:30
Type: Audit Assurance and Financial Reporting, Course
Organiser: Tyne and Wear
This introductory course is targeted at accountants with limited prior experience of charity accounts – either working in professional practice or in a charity.
The charity sector is fascinating but challenging for accountants in terms of financial statements preparation, financial management and day to day administration.
This seminar is targeted at those working in professional firms and within the charitable sector. Case studies and real-life examples will be used to provide a detailed insight into what is required to manage a charity’s finances, produce a set of SORP compliant accounts and undertake or survive an independent examination or audit.
After attending the seminar, you will be able to:
• Appreciate the key features of the regulatory and legal framework applying to charities, including the requirement for audit and independent examination;
• Understand the format and content of charity accounts under the charity SORP and how these differ from accounts in the ‘for profit’ sector;
• Understand different charitable structures, which works best and when;
• Apply best practice guidance in running a charity and managing or playing the role of a trustee
• Understand how to approach/survive a charity audit or independent examination and how to deal with some of the more challenging issues it throws up.
