Getting small entity audits right first time

Date: 2 October 2018 13:00 for 13:30 - 16:30

Type: Course

Organiser: Tyne and Wear

With the ever-increasing pressure on auditors to improve both quality and efficiency, coupled with the steady flow of changes to accounting and auditing standards, it’s a difficult time to be an auditor – and small company and charity audits are particularly challenging.

Course information

This seminar uses real-life examples to provide a detailed insight into areas where audit quality issues are often identified and focusses on ways to avoid these without compromising on efficiency.

It also looks at practical measures to help target the audit team’s efforts to the areas of greatest risk and importance.

What you will learn

The seminar will provide a file reviewer’s perspective of the following areas:

  • Key independence threats facing small entity auditors and how to address them
  • Materiality considerations
  • What a risk assessment should look like for a small entity audit
  • The audit of accounting estimates
  • Issues with sampling and the treatment of misstatements
  • Performing and documenting audit tests effectively and efficiently
  • Producing audit working papers – not too much; not too little
  • Effective audit completion (including going concern reviews)
  • What ICAEW reviewers are looking for on inspection visits and how to ensure that you comply

Who should attend the seminar?

This seminar is aimed at partners, managers and staff in audit firms looking to explore ways to improve the quality and efficiency of their audits. It complements ‘False Assurance (running on the same day) very well.
