Come and join us for a lively night of discussion and debate around business and the local economy in Tees Valley with its Mayor, Ben Houchen.

Since 2016, Tees Valley has seen a major step change in its influence and economic outlook. Ben Houchen, the mayor of the region has been instrumental in this transformation. Ahead of the local elections in May, ICAEW is hosting an ‘in conversation’ style discussion with Ben about his time as mayor and business in the region.

Ben Houchen- Mayor of Tees Valley
Ben Houchen was elected as the Mayor of the Tees Valley in May 2017. which covers the five boroughs of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees.

Ben is Teesside born and bred. A qualified solicitor, he has worked for two local firms specialising in commercial litigation and employment law. In 2016 Ben founded BLK UK – an international sportswear business, which supplies clothing to amateur and professional clubs. Ben has stepped down from his position at BLK and is dedicating all of his time to his Mayoral role.

In his time as Mayor, Ben has worked to bring Teesside Airport back into public ownership, to transform Darlington and Middlesbrough stations and has overseen the devolution of Tees Valley’s £30million annual adult education budget.
