Making Tax Digital (MTD) – preparing to join the pilot

Date: 22 November 2023 0930 -1230

Type: Course, Tax

Organiser: NorSCA

Join Rebecca Benneyworth for this latest Making Tax Digital update

With the first phase of MTD still two years away, many firms have started to concentrate on other areas, but only those businesses joining the pilot in April 2024 will have experience of a ‘whole cycle’ of MTD ITSA including filing for 4 quarters and the final crystallisation in January 2026 before the first tranche of businesses are mandated into the new system.

Course Information

This course will set out the current requirements for joining the pilot in April 2024, and the revised timetable, and review changes to MTD introduced during 2022 and 2023 as a result of the restructuring of the programme. It is an important update for those firms that wish to put a few clients into the pilot to test their preparedness for the biggest change to affect income tax since self assessment was introduced in 1997.

The course will include:

  • The current legislation and proposed amendments
  • The phasing of mandation – what to expect
  • How to determine which clients are affected and when
  • The outcome of the Small Business Review – what next for the under £30,000’s?
  • Keeping digital records – what is expected? Landlords and joint ownership of property
  • The pilot – should we join in 2024 and what types of restrictions are there?
