We will take a guided tour around the Tyneside Cinema which was originally built in 1937 as Newcastle’s news theatre and today is the only purpose built newsreel theatre in the UK still operating as a cinema. You will be able to:
Our host for the day will be Mark Dobson, Chief Executive of Tyneside Cinema who will be available for a Q&A session after lunch. Lunch will be taken at the Northern Counties Club, just around the corner.

Mark Dobson
Mark was born in Gateshead, moved to London aged five and returned to the North East to study Fine Art at Newcastle University in the early 1980s. He has worked in the arts since graduating and joined Tyneside Cinema as its CEO in 2000. He has led the cinema through a significant period of growth and regeneration, including its award-winning £7m extension and restoration project completed in May 2008. He is one of the founders of the AV Festival and serves on its board still. He is a Trustee of Yorkshire Film Archive, a director of Cinema Arts Network and Vice Chair and audience development lead for Newcastle Gateshead Cultural Venues, the consortium of the ten major building based cultural organisations in the city.
